Fukushima nuclear power plant had taken thousands of lives and is set to restart soon

The nuclear watchdog of Japan has given the green signal for two reactors of Fukushima to restart but the operator still has to persuade local communities the reactors would not pose any danger and are safe theguardian.com.
Widespread anti-nuclear sentiment has simmered in Japan after an earthquake and Tsunami in March 2011 had resulted in meltdowns at the nuclear power plant, sparking the worst atomic disaster since Chernobyl.
The country's nuclear reactors were immediately switched off after the catastrophe and two were briefly restarted last year but all of Japan's nuclear plants are currently offline.
The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) has given the go-ahead for two reactors at the Sendai plant in southern Japan and it comes after it issued a more than 400-page safety report in July and follows a month-long public consultation period.
However, restart is not an easy matter because any restart is unlikely before the year end as the operator, Kyushu Electric Power, has to obtain two more NRA approvals for other facilities at the site. And then, there would be the more challenging matter of gaining the consent of communities who live near the plant in south-western Kagoshima prefecture and who must sign off on the restarts before they can happen.
Much of the job of convincing a skeptical public will fall on the shoulders of new. He made a visit to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant wearing a protective jacket and face mask to see for himself the work at the crippled facility.
