Return to the Wild West - Los Angeles police to get semi-automatic guns to tackle armed school kids

The days the Wild West, when the gun was the Law, appears to be on a comeback trail in America – the decision to arm the police with assault weapons nzherald.co.nz has been taken in view of growing incidences of shootings and mass massacres carried out by school kids in their schools.
The police on school grounds in the place are to be armed with semi-automatic AR-15 assault weapons in an attempt to prevent future school massacres.
It seems officers have indicated that they were not well enough equipped to deal with any attacker who wields a rifle with high capacity magazines and wears body armor – such has happened in the past.
The use of semi-automatic weapons would allow the police to penetrate body armor and also would be more accurate than when firing with handguns. With a handgun, the accuracy is hardly 25 yards whereas s with a rifle in the hands of a trained person, the accuracy can be 50 to 100 yards.
Compton is a suburb of southern Los Angeles with a population of 100,000 people and has a long association gang and gun culture.
The local school board oversees 26,000 pupils and it has decided to allow specially selected officers to carry the AR-15s in the back of their cars after they have been given adequate training.
Incidentally, US school districts in California, Florida, Utah and Kansas already have provision of police who are armed with semi-automatic weapons.
