Impose ban on bar girls in order to reduce crime against women

The recommendation of a high powered committee is to ban bar girls in hotels and restaurants in order to curb attacks on women and reduce crime rate in Maharashtra – this is the finding of the state-appointed Dharmadhikari Committee timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
The committee has made an observation that more and more people are resorting to the "e-way" to harass women, the panel has blamed Facebook, Twitter and other social media for "nurturing violent tendencies among the youth", and has reiterated its recommendations to introduce suitable curbs, including formulation of a new law if necessary.
The ban on bar girls and curbs on social media were among the recommendations made in the interim reports that have been submitted to the Bombay high court. The Court is hearing a PIL by the Help Mumbai Foundation for the safety of women.
The committee, in its fifth interim report, had said that while the state had banned bar dancers, the Supreme Court, in July 2013, had held the ban unconstitutional. However, the committee is clearly of the opinion that there should be complete ban on bar girls in hotels and restaurants.
Moreover, blaming the "corrupting influence" of social media, the committee has said that phones, SMSes, email, Facebook, Twitter... are different tools used to harass women mentally. Hence, it is necessary to introduce some curbs. It has also noted that worldwide divorce rates have risen in marriages facilitated through Facebook and the social site "has become a medium through which women are being harassed".
