Cameron outlines anti-terror plans to tackle IS militants – seize passports of suspects

Prime Minister David Cameron has revealed the anti-terror plans drawn up by Britain in view of the raising the terror threat level to severe - the second highest – this meant that a terror attack was highly likely news.sky.com.
As a part of the plans, the police would be given temporary powers to seize passports at UK borders of Britons who, in the opinion of the police, are suspected to be travelling abroad to fight with terror groups. The focus is on the Islamist militant groups fighting in Iraq and Syria.
They have already taken over large areas of the two countries in recent months and nearly 500 Britons have joined it, pledging allegiance to the insurgents.
The Prime Minister has said that IS was a direct threat to every European nation, and it is feared that some of these Britons could return to the UK with battlefield experience and try to carry out terror attacks at home. Such a situation was not in order because British citizens who pledge allegiance elsewhere should not be allowed to return to the UK and pose a threat to national security.
Another measure is that airlines will have to give UK authorities information on passenger lists to help identify Islamist fighters and also comply with security screening requirements. In case the airlines do not agree, then their flights will not be able to land in Britain.
