Britain must tie up with Bashar al-Assad if it wants to defeat the ISIS

In the opinion of Lord Dannatt, the former Chief of the General Staff, a tie-up with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is the only way Britain can check the designs of the ISIS dailymail.co.uk/a>. He has said that it was impossible to fight the organization in Iraq while allowing it to retain its stronghold in bordering Syria.
Hence, Britain and America would have to take a step backwards and negotiate with Syrian dictator Bashar Assad to defeat the growing threat posed by Islamic State. Unless such a step is taken and a bombing campaign is resorted to in Syria, it would be difficult to defeat the Islamic State insurgency.
The remarks of Lord Dannatt have come after French President Francois Hollande put the blame on Britain for the rise of Islamic State – also known as ISIS or ISIL.If timely action would have been taken one year ago, if the major powers had reacted to the use of chemical weapons in Syria, a situation would not have arisen when a choice has to be made between a dictator and a terrorist group.
President Hollande feels that the decision of Parliament decision to block airstrikes on Syria had allowed the ISIS to flourish, because it had ended any hope of replacing President Assad with members of the moderate opposition fighting him. The French President has said that, if two years ago, action had been taken to ensure a transition, the Islamic State would not have been born.
Incidentally, as per Navi Pillay, the UN Human Rights chief has revealed that over 191,000 people have been killed in the Syrian conflict up to April-2014
