26-year-old man mows down four people and injures another 25 in Melbourne CBD

26-year-old man with a history of mental health and drug abuse issues mows down four people and injures another 25 in Melbourne CBD. The man drove into a street crowded with pedestrians and has been identified. He had been charged with family violence offenses last weekend and was out on bail.
The dead included a man in his 30s, a woman in her 30s, and a young 10-year-old Jewish girl.
Police have confirmed it was not a terrorism related incident.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 20 January 2017.
The killer is in hospital after being shot in the arm by police after dragging him out from the vehicle. He has been accused of deliberately ploughing into pedestrians in Melbourne's city centre during the lunchtime rush.
Officers tried to intercept his vehicle, but called off the chase before he entered the downtown area - it seems he was driving so erratically and they had apprehension that a chase through the city might endanger the community. Incidentally, before he went on the rampage through Melbourne, he was involved in a domestic stabbing incident in a suburb earlier in the day.
