Man follows wife to Shanghai to chop off her hands suspecting infidelity

The husband was 40-years-old and his wife 28. They lived in Sichuan province and he suspected her and would accuse her of having an affair. He would also torture and beat her and, in desperation, she fled to Shanghai to escape him. But, he followed her there and chopped off her hand with a meat cleaver.

The woman had moved from Sichuan province to Shanghai, China's largest city, in an attempt to get away from her husband following repeated domestic violence.
Police have arrested the man and the woman was taken to hospital for emergency treatment and refitment of the hand but even though the doctors tried to reattach her hand and fingers they were unsuccessful. The victim never expected the violence to escalate to such a level.
She had wanted to get a divorce from her husband but was advised not to by her friends for the sake of the couple's three-year-old son.
